Moving apartment during quarantine

Yasmina and I just moved together in an apartment in Dubai Marina and during this time of lockdown it is not the easiest task, however nothing can stop us from achieving what we were meant to do and as part of our plans here I am talking to you about this from my balcony with a cup of tea.

you can order our favorite ginger lemon tea from café bateel and taste it in the comfort of your home

To move around during this time of lockdown it is mandatory to use a permit that can be easily obtained from the Dubai government site.

There are two main options to choose from Work and Personal.

We chose Personal where are as a reason you can choose three main categories: Medical Appointment, Grocery/Medical supplies and Emergency.

In our case we chose Emergency and we specified the reason which is our move and after you register to the page giving your name, ID ( Passport or UAE ID ) and address.

They will ask you to specify the timing when you are supposed to go out and I highly recommend to do it at least five to ten minutes before.

They will send you a text message when your permit gets approved but I would still refresh the main page since it might be faster to get it on the government page rather than as a message.

We prefer to take screenshots of it since it is safer in case you need to show it to police if asked.

This above mentioned was the easy part…. we had more than ten suitcases combined to move and this was the real challenge.

Since we both don’t own a car to move around it was not easy to find a movers company because of the lockdown and taxis weren’t allowing us to board with so many pieces of luggage.

Thanks god the private driver of the hotel apartment we were staying in gave us a hand with this by transporting us and our valise to our final destination.

I can not state precisely how many hour exactly Yasmina and I spent cleaning the whole apartment from bottom to top with antibacterial products, surely more than five hours.

Afterwards all the house smelled of a gorgeous jasmine bouquet mixed with frankincense, myrrh and bokhour (arabic incense) that we burned in a special defuser.

Trust me when I say that certain scents and smells make you feel totally at home… it could be the fresh smell of bread ; the smell of your mother’s lipstick;   or that particular apple tart that your grandma used to bake…

We all have a particular one and since we both moved here, I believe is the mix of resins and woods that are so common in the art of Arabian perfumery.

The first of 2020 Yasmina and I learned how to create bokhour from scratch and that experience not only made us closer to the culture of this beautiful land but the importance of cultivating and caring for the bien vivre of the home.

What perfume or smell makes you feel at home or gives you a homey feeling?

Please tell me if you are interested in knowing about how to make bokhour or knowing more about the art of Arabian perfumery.
